Gallup has President Obama up today at 47% with only 46% disapproving. This follows a recent trend showing the President’s approval ratings inching upward. Part of the reason for this is most likely due to the Republican Primary and the narrowing of the GOP field of potential opponents to the President’s re-election. The Republicans shouldn’t worry too much though as Real Clear Politics still has the President trailing Mitt Romney in a hypothetical match-up by 6 points – though it should be noted that the most recent survey on RCP was done before the holidays. It’s too soon to tell how the Iowa Caucus results, and the luke warm Romney reception there will effect the poll numbers – it will be interesting to see if Obama’s approval continues to rise as a result. But as always, remember, polls are simply polls of people who agreed to take a poll.
